| and the reason I started to do all the work myself was b/c of two reasons and things that happened back when I was 16 and didn't know how to do anything on a car. #1. Took my car to a shop b/c the brake pedal was very soft, and the car was firing on 5 cylinders..not 6. Next day they charge me $80 for looking at the car (prolly all the money I had saved up at the time lol), then tell me it will be $3500 to fix the problem b/c the whole "ignition system" would have to be replaced to get the car running right, and the front calipers were "ruined, and would have to be replaced with new ones which for these cars are VERY rare and cost $500 each." Got on tt.net, did some research, found out my calipers were on the wrong side..brakes fixed, and spliced in a new coilpack connector...firing of engine fixed. This was a VERY reputable shop too and it is still there. I wish I knew the stuff I know now back then :) #2. Coolant line behind engine on turbo was leaking. Got quoted $1000 just to pull the plenum. Researched tt.net and a member from here also came over to help me along the way, and we got the line changed out in a day. Ever since both of these things happened to me when I was 16 years old, I have NEVER let another "mechanic" touch my car. Dunno why I posted this, but just felt like sharing to let others know to be careful out there cause unfortunatley, there are mechanics out there that are just there to rip you off, and take your money. Best thing to do is work on your own car. I do understand some don't have the time or tools to do so though, and in that case, just try to be careful.
